Last opportunity for feedback on flood protection options
With consultation closing on Monday 14 September this is the last week in which to provide feedback on the two flood protection options proposed between the Ewen and Kennedy-Good bridges on the Hutt River.
"We've had a great response from the Hutt community so far. But we want more people to voice their opinion on whether we provide updated flood protection in one step, starting in about five years, or wait to see how the effects of climate change pan out and start work in about 20 years instead," says Greater Wellington Regional Council Manager, Flood protection, Graeme Campbell.
More than 34,000 reminder cards were delivered throughout Lower Hutt last week and the regional council hopes they will stimulate people to take the opportunity to have their say.
"If you give us your feedback you'll also have the opportunity to present your views to the Hutt Valley Flood management Subcommittee as special hearings later this year," says Mr Campbell.
Feedback can be made through completing an online form at the webpage, which also contains all the back resources required to understand the reasoning behind the proposals.
So far Greater Wellington Regional Council, working with Hutt City Council and the NZ Transport Agency, has held a one week presentation at Westfield/Queensgate, three public open days and maintained a shop window display at 131 High St since consultation began.
The regional council has also written to everyone whose property may be purchased as a result of the proposals and held over 100 individual meetings with residents and business owners. Public meetings have also been held with stakeholder groups such as infrastructure supplier and recreational, business and environmental groups.
"This is the last opportunity or people to provide their feedback before we start analysing the views gathered so we hope the Hutt Community will take the time to give us its feedback".
