Investigation of Selected Closed Landfills in the Wellington Region, 1998-1999

The Wellington Regional Council investigated 4 closed landfills over a 7
month period during 1998/99. The purpose of these investigations was to
determine whether there were discharges of leachate from these landfills,
and if so, whether these were causing any adverse effects on the receiving
water.
The results obtained were compared with the Australian and New Zealand
Environmental Conservation Council (ANZEC) water quality guidelines for
stock watering and the protection of Aquatic ecosystems.
This report includes findings and recommendations.
