Te Whaitua o Kāpiti Committee was established in February 2023. This is a group comprised of local people tasked with recommending ways to maintain and improve the quality of our fresh water. The committee was independent of any one organisation and the opinions recorded in the minutes are not a reflection of the views held by the organisations, but by the individuals involved.

The Tiriti House model was used for decision making in the development of the Kāpiti Whaitua, a Mana whenua house and a Kāwanatanga house.

Please note the following references when reading the Kāpiti Whaitua Committee minutes:

  • Mana Whenua House (or Mana whenua) as per the Te Tiriti House decision making model.

Comprised of Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki, Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai and Ngāti Toa Rangatira representatives.

  • Kāwanatanga House (or Kāwanatanga) as per the Te Tiriti House decision making model.

Comprised of the Kāpiti Coast community representatives within the Committee.

  • Kaimahi is the term used for council officers and other support staff who worked alongside the committee members in actioning the requests of the Te Tiriti House.
